The Hard Truth About Why Most Ecommerce Brands Fail

​Most people do not start an ecommerce brand thinking it will fail. They have a vision, a product they believe in, and the drive to make it work. But the reality is only 10% of businesses make it past their 10 years anniversary.

Not because the founders are lazy or do not care. They fail because the foundations are not right. They spend time on the wrong things, and by the time they realise it, the energy and money have already run out.

Here are the hard truths most people do not want to admit but absolutely need to face.

You are chasing sales and forgetting about profit
It is easy to get caught up in how many orders are coming through. The problem is if every sale is costing you more than it makes, this is not sustainable.

This process is fine if there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and you’re gaining market share or brand exposure. But always make sure you have a rainy day fund set aside if things don’t always go to plan, and it takes longer to turn a profit than initially thought.

Too many ecommerce owners throw money at ads without looking at their margins. They celebrate hitting ten thousand pounds a month in revenue, but after costs, there is nothing left.

Growth without profit is not growth. Always keep an eye on total profit.

You are trying to do everything yourself
